What's Your Accent?

Very interesting...  I always thought I had an accent, being raised in HK and all...  but I guess HKIS did me well!

Do you have an accent? (only applies to Americans)

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

Any SCC fans out there?

looking for the sheet music for SCC's "Parent's Prayer"... anyone have it for my reference?

Celebrations...

WARNING:  There will be some rambling below as I'm running on empty now...  jet lag is killing me-

Every celebration can only happen with some degree of preparation.  While the preparation and planning may get tiring or hectic, the end result will always be a blast!

1) Last night, we had a ridiculously successful surprise birthday shindig for my dad (you should have seen the happy - and definitely surprised - look on this face!).  To make this celebration a success, numerous closed-door discussions or meetings had to take place without making my dad's radar...In a nutshell, the family had to weave a story involving item 2 below to explain why I showed up in NY inexplicably, followed by my brother (Tim) and my future sis-in-law (Carrie).  With great coordination amongst family members (esp my mom and sis!), we managed to feign a small family dinner to welcome Carrie back to NY, but then proceeded to surprise dad with a (slightly) larger gathering of 30+ friends and family, 100 some longetivity lotus buns, and loads of yum Shanghainese food!!

A special thanks to all the family members who were able to attend this Thursday celebration, and a big thanks to many of the sig others and spouses who made the special trip as well...  last night worked out well!

2) Next weekend, Tim and Carrie are getting MARRIED!  A very intense and awesome celebration to look forward to, but before we get there, we need to finish all of the last-stage preparations!  As best man, I will do what I can to help ease some of the last-minute worries which Tim and Carrie may have.  I will work with them and pray for various factors, including cooperative weather, smooth logistics, safe arrival of guests, etc.  To facilitate this, I will need to fly into Toronto early next week to familiarize myself with the foreign city (and country!).  I have to admit that I am nervous about the final preparations, but know that I have great support from the bridal party, and know that He is in control as well.

I have no doubt item 2 will be AWESOME!  I just have to play my role, and be as helpful as possible to plow through the last couple preparatory steps!  More updates to come on the celebration...(disclaimer: update may take a number of weeks as I will have to face a heavy workload back in HK when I return...  da da dum!)

Republished pic of Tim and Carrie...  aww..

Phil @ Philly

Things to do....suggestions?

I know I need to update more often, but its really difficult to find the time!  Anyhow, I am spending the next few weeks in Philly, so if any of y'all know anything about the place, please send me a list of "things to do, places to see" - if its a long list, please just send it to me via email... thanks!

How is everyone else doing this hot summer?  I had my first taste of the "post-heat wave" US summer by baking in a 3-hour long scavenger hunt with Wharton Leadership Ventures.  Armed with GPS devices, we scoured the University City area to find hidden "caches" of points.  It was fun, but the sun was really really hot.

All right, need to get some reading done before breakfast and training session.  Take care all!

PS - Would like to find a good Philly Cheese Steak (PCS) shop.  I know the most famous are Geno's and Pat's.  Any other suggestions from fellow PCS fans, or Wharton alum?  If not, which is better - Geno's or Pat's?  Thanks!

Overdue Xanga Visit...

Labour Day is Great

Hey family and friends!  I decided to make a brief Xanga visit after a very long absence!  I just wanted everyone to know that I am still alive and well here in Hong Kong, and am actually enjoying a 3-day weekend now.  Thanks to LaboUr day!  (Note: I intentionally added the "u" to honor the British-influence behind this holiday - and yes, this is similar to the US version during the fall)

My plan for the next couple days:

1) avoid all the takeout food I normally need to eat at work and cook/eat homecooked food;

2) sleep (more than the usual 4-5 hour nights); and

3) watch DVDs and spend time with friends/care group

How are you all doing?  Keep me posted, and I will let y'all know when I manage to take some time off to visit the US.

PC out.
